It is recommended to take children to the dentist when they reach their first birthday or when their first tooth erupts. However, it is most common to take them to the dentist when they complete their first teething, around the age of three. In addition, this first visit to the dentist is very useful as a first contact with the dentist, to build confidence, in order to avoid future fears that may arise in some patients or children, especially when their first visit is directly for treatment, such as filling a cavity.

Ideally, teeth should be brushed after every meal. If this is not possible, at least twice a day, and always at night before going to bed. The time spent brushing your teeth and the method of brushing is also important. It is recommended that brushing should last around two to three minutes. The best technique is with a medium-hard brush placed at a 45º angle, with short back and forth circular movements, completely covering the teeth. Always brush the inside, outside and chewing area of the teeth.

Regular dental check-ups are key to good oral health, so that possible oral problems can be detected in time and future complications avoided. In this way, dental check-ups are a preventive measure, and their frequency depends both on the patient's age and oral condition. It usually ranges from six months to one year.

It is necessary to maintain proper oral hygiene, brush 3 times a day for at least two minutes, use dental floss and an oral irrigator, use mouthwash and do not forget to brush your tongue. It is also essential to visit the dentist regularly if any alteration is detected in the mouth (sores or wounds, change in the colour of the mucosa, bleeding gums, bad breath, etc.).
